Ahava–part 2 in a series of 3

February 2, 2009

ahava

Ahava is the second sister of the faeries, each of which represent a form of love.  Ahava is faerie over love of the will, love of commitment.  Her love is matured past that of her sister Raya, having moved further than just the love of deep friendship into the realm of choosing to love another no matter what.  It is Ahava’s love that holds together when friendship has been hurt or betrayed, and it is the commitment Ahava brings that lasts a lifetime.

I chose the color blue for Ahava’s dress because, like green, there is a certain peacefulness that blue brings, but where Raya’s green has excitement, perhaps even playfulness, Ahava’s blue has a very strong calm about it.  It is the kind of calm that cannot be torn apart by anything; as long as you are in her presence, you know that there is nothing in the world but stillness, and it is good.

I really like how Ahava’s form just gives off a more mature feeling. Raya was seated in a younger position, while Ahava is confident and upright, but not stoic. Really nice.

Thanks. I actually didn’t put any conscious thought into how her age might affect her posing, but perhaps some subtle part of my brain knew what I had in mind while creating her and knew how to make it work. When I first started sketching her I was having some trouble getting her face to look a bit older–everything I did looked pretty much the same as Raya only with different colored hair. In the end I think it worked out pretty well though; whereas Raya may be in her late teens, Ahava is definitely several years older. The plan for Dode is to get something somewhere in between.
