A lame attempt to imitate Dennis Jones…

girl-and-jesus

A friend of mine needed a picture for a project, a picture to illustrate the concept of trusting God with all our crap–our worries, our attitudes, our mindsets, our uncontrollable and often unfortunate circumstances.  She gave me this idea of a girl, hesitant to give her stuff over to Jesus because she knows if she does, she’ll no longer be in control, or at least no longer feel in control; and then there’s Jesus standing off to the side a little bit, quietly waiting for her to hand him everything willingly.  I have recently become aware of Dennis Jones’ artwork, and decided to try to imitate his style for this particular illustration—I think I got the look of the characters pretty close, but I am a lousy painter and he is freaking ridiculous.  Check out his stuff at http://www.dj-art.com.

Hey Cool! Nicely done my friend.

You know Dennis lives right around here…

I do know that, in fact. The guy that lives next door, Justin, has been to his studio. Perhaps we need to take a field trip, no?

I know that Hopper takes his class over to his studio every year…maybe you could go with him sometime.

Or…invite him out to lunch. A couple years ago a friend of mine and I actually invited him out to lunch and talked with him for probably two hours.
